The DIACOMET project has officially come to an end, and as we look back, we would like to share a final set of impressions from some of the project’s closing activities.

In the end of April, the Austrian team took part in BRIDGES – Building European Resilience for Dialogue and Democracy in Brussels. The two-day event brought together researchers, policymakers and practitioners for intensive exchange on how dialogue can strengthen democratic resilience. The programme opened with a pre-conference session on “Dialogic Capacity-building: From Research to Policy Uptake”, including the presentation of DIACOMET policy recommendations by Krisztina Rozgonyi and contributions from country teams. A multistakeholder dialogue on inclusive accountability followed, bringing together experts from media, civil society and policy to discuss practical approaches to accountability in democratic systems. The main conference featured keynote inputs, project presentations from Tobias Eberwein, Heikki Heikkilä and Sophie Duvekot

Just one day later, we also contributed to the Lange Nacht der Forschung (Long Night of Research) in Vienna, where the Dialogue Lab was presented to a wider public at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. The interactive station “Digital Reality Check: Small Decisions – Big Impact?” invited visitors to reflect on everyday ethical dilemmas in digital communication, including fake news, AI and moral decision-making. The format sparked lively discussions throughout the evening and made complex questions accessible to a broad audience.

As part of the project’s final reflections, DIACOMET also hosted its closing event in Vienna under the title “Journalismus im Dialog: Zwischen Anspruch und Wirklichkeit” at the Presseclub Concordia (19. May 2026). The event addressed how the gap between journalism and audiences can be bridged. After the presentation of key findings, five experts discussed the conditions under which dialogic communication can work in practice. A German-language report from the event is available here: https://www.oeaw.ac.at/cmc/detail/news/journalismus-im-dialog-zwischen-anspruch-und-wirklichkeit

With these final activities, DIACOMET closes its project journey — marked by exchange, collaboration and a shared commitment to strengthening democratic dialogue across Europe.

We warmly thank all partners, speakers, participants and guests for their engagement and support throughout the project.
