Around 300 participants attended the talk of Michael Bronstein “Breakthroughs will come from innovation, both in wetlab and ML/AI”. OeAW President Heinz Faßmann gave his warm welcoming words, thanked the Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation for their significant financial support, and expressed his gratitude to all local and international partners who helped bringing the AITHRYA institute to reality. Alex Bronstein, Technion Professor and ISTA Guest Scientist, introduces his twin brother Michael Bronstein in a sympathetic and humorous way. And Michael Bronstein then started to present his mission of the new institute and his current and future research endeavours. Michael Bronstein’s research interests lie in geometric deep learning, graph neural networks, and generative models for molecular design. The new institute will develop AI-first approaches to biomedicine in order to revolutionize the way work is done in the field. The event was framed by a great music performance of the Canadian-German star tenor Michael Schade and pianist Felix Hornbacher (Strauss: Zigeunerbaron - „Als flotter Geist, doch früh verwaist“; Schubert: Der Musensohn; Berlioz: La damnation de Faust - "Nature immense, impénétrable et fière"). It was a pleasure to see how Michael Schade created a “magical” connection to the vision of the new institute (AITHYRA will be the place where magic happens) and also nicely expressed the scientific director’s passion for polymath Goethe and one of his greatest work of literature “Faust.”
