The Nomburg Lab at AITHYRA is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow or Bioinformatics Scientist to join our interdisciplinary team that combines AI, structural biology, and high-throughput molecular virology to decode the virus-host conflict. The Nomburg Lab pairs computational and experimental methods, with a special emphasis on interactions between viruses and cellular immunity.

The Lab of Jason Nomburg uses protein structure prediction and comparison to study viral immune antagonists (see Nomburg et al., Nature 2024 https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-024-07809-y). We recently released the first manuscript from the Nomburg lab (bioRxiv https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.64898/2026.07.21.739742v1) where we map the structural landscape of the viral proteome and show that conserved folds are recurrently used by pathogens for immune antagonism.

We are looking for a scientist to apply protein structure-based methods, including structural predictions, comparisons, and phylogenetics, to study the virus-host conflict. This position will be between 80% and 100% computational, with the possibility for experimental work should there be interest. At the Nomburg Lab, we are dedicated to the success of lab members. The Nomburg Lab is collegial and highly collaborative, with ongoing computational and experimental work supplemented by a state-of-the-art AI-guided robotics facility. This project will be implemented in close collaboration with other lab members and will be tailored to fit the candidate’s interests and wishes for technical development. Your Tasks
You have a keen interest in interdisciplinary research and solving real-world scientific and biomedical problems? We are looking for scientists with a do-er mindset to think outside the box, to learn fast, collaborate effectively, iterate quickly, and work at the interface of both experimental and computational design.

Your Profile

• A Ph.D. in bioinformatics, biology, virology, computer science, or a related field.
• Substantial experience in python, R, and/or bash.
• Proven experience leading computational biology projects.
• A strong publication record, including one or more first author publications
• Experience using high performance computing systems
• Experience with the following are welcome, but not required:
  • Protein structure-based bioinformatics
  • Phylogenetics
  • Systems-level questions relating to viral or cellular proteins at the virus-host interface

•  For applicants for the bioinformatics scientist position:
  • At least one year of bioinformatics experience post-Ph.D.

You will join our Finance Department, report directly to Karin Kukla, Senior Accountant, and contribute to strengthening our finance team.

Full Time Postion
Starting Date: Mid September/October 2026

Your Tasks

• Support in day to day accounting (accounts payable, receivable, bank postings).
• Assistance with monthly and annual financial statements (UGB).
• Preparation of payment runs.
• Support in project and grant accounting (e.g. ÖAW, FWF, CDG).
• Assistance with fixed assets accounting and inventories.
• Administrative support during audits and documentation tasks.
• Close collaboration with experienced colleagues in the finance team.

Your Profile

• Degree in commercial education (e.g. HAK, HAS) or Business Administration (completed or ongoing).
• First experience in accounting is an advantage.
• Basic knowledge of Austrian accounting principles.
• Good Excel skills (basic to intermediate level required).
• Good German and English skills.
• Accurate, structured working style and willingness to learn.
• Strong interest in accounting, finance, and administrative processes.
