Species-rich grasslands are in sharp decline. In order to promote in-depth transdisciplinary cooperation and consequently better policy-making, a comprehensive, interdisciplinary review of the history of grasslands and its relevance for the environmental management in the 21st century was initiated by the Academy. Ulrike Tappeiner (University of Innsbruck and Eurac Research, Bozen/Bolzano) will deliver an overview keynote lecture. The autors of the recently published volume “Historical Biodiversity in the Alps: Grassland Agroecosystems in the Last Millennium” will present views from different perspectives and discuss the benefits of an inter- and transdisciplinary approach. The volume will be on sale at the symposium, provided by the Austrian Academy of Sciences Press.
