How does the "Cocktailparty-Effekt“ work?

Most people take it for granted. However, for some it is a big challenge: talking to a friend at a crowded party. Acoustic researchers of the OeAW explore the ability to focus on a single conversation in a noisy environment and how people with a hearing impairment can train their perception.

Piotr Majdak ist Vizedirektor des Instituts für Schallforschung der ÖAW. Er habilitierte sich 2015 im Fach "Akustik und Audiotechnik" an der Kunstuniversität Graz und unterrichtet "Audiotechnik" an der Fachhochschule Technikum Wien. Sein Hauptforschungsbereich ist das räumliche Hören.

“Adaptation, learning and training for spatial hearing in complex environments” lautet der Titel des Forschungsprojekts an dem, neben Piotr Majdak von der ÖAW, auch Wissenschaftler/innen aus der Slowakei und den USA beteiligt sind. Das Projekt wird noch bis Ende 2019 von der Europäischen Kommission in Rahmen von Horizon 2020 gefördert.
