Matthias Karmasin is the Director of the Institute for Comparative Media and Communication Studies of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the University of Klagenfurt, where he is a full professor and chair for Communication Studies. He has been a Corresponding Member of the Division of Humanities and the Social Sciences of the Austrian Academy of Sciences since 2011 and a member of the The European Academy - Academia Europaea / Section Film, Media and Visual Studies since 2018.
His research interests include media accountability, media development, organizational communication, political communication, communication theory, media economy, media ethics and media practice.
