The project, funded by the City of Vienna, is dedicated to the whereabouts of Schubert autographs in the first half of the 20th century. It focuses on the collection of the music publisher August Cranz, who in turn acquired the extensive music archive of the Viennese Schubert publisher Anton Diabelli via detours. The Cranz collection was apparently preserved in its entirety until 1945, but was then quickly broken up. In addition to tracing the respective provenances, the concrete circumstances for the sale, shortly after the end of World War II, and the more recent history of the important music publisher will also be analysed.
