The Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities (ACDH) pursues research in various fields of the digital humanities and offers services for digitally working humanities scholars. Fundamental principles behind the ACDH’s agenda include the systematic use of digital infrastructures, transdisciplinarity, collaborative work and participatory technologies, open access / open source as well as open life cycles of research results and research data.

Research & Development

The ACDH conducts projects across a wide range of digitally mediated humanities disciplines. One of our main concerns are infrastructure components: digital language resources and related standards, domain-specific virtual research environments and repositories. Large parts of the institute’s research program are synchronised with activities in the European infrastructure initiatives.

The Digital Humanities are being built by a lively community of practise, characterised by a penchant for innovation and experiments, by a strong inclination towards new methods and approaches and a belief in the general benefit of collaboration and sharing. The ACDH provides a wide range of services, making tools, data and expertise accessible for digitally working researchers in the humanities.

The ACDH is a project partner of dariahTeach, a project funded through an Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership Grant. dariahTeach is developing open-source, high quality, multilingual teaching materials for the digital arts and humanities.

The ACDH is a cooperation partner in PARTHENOS, a project funded by the European Commission in the framework of Horizon 2020. PARTHENOSPooling Activities, Resources and Tools for Heritage E-research Networking, Optimization and Synergies — started in May 2015.

The project aims at giving insight to a world as documented in words on the example of the unique collection (1911-1998) of the Bavarian Dialects in the Austrian Hungarian Monarchy (estimated 200,000 headwords; estimated 4 Mio records; 5 volumes dictionary, about 50,000 headwords).
