ger: Die vorliegende Dissertation mit dem Titel Keramische Evidenzen zur Baugeschichte des unteren Embolos von Ephesos befasst sich mit der kontextuellen Auswertung der Fundkeramik aus Grabungen am unteren Embolos, die einen zeitlichen Rahmen von rund tausend Jahren (3. Jh. v.<br />Chr. 7. Jh. n. Chr.) umfasst. Es konnten einerseits chronologische Fragen zu den Einzelmonumenten an der Südseite des unteren Embolos geklärt und andererseits seine Bauphasen präzisiert werden. Nach einem zur Fragestellung und Zielsetzung sowie zur Methode und Vorgangsweise (Kap. 1) wird in Kap. 2 die Forschungsgeschichte dargelegt. Im Anschluss daran erfolgt die Besprechung der Grabungsbefunde und Fundkomplexe, beginnend mit den Einzelmonumenten an der Südseite des unteren Embolos. Zunächst wird das hellenistische Brunnenhaus besprochen (Kap. 3), daran anschließend die Befunde und feinchronologisch relevanten Keramikfunde aus drei Fundamentgrabungen im Bereich des sog. Heroons (Kap. 4). Kap. 5 befasst sich mit zwei in Raum 45c des Hanghauses 2 durchgeführten Grabungen, die für die Datierung des sog. Oktogons ausschlaggebend sind. Im nächsten Kapitel (Kap. 6) wird auf die Datierung des sog. Hexagons eingegangen. Im Anschluss daran erfolgt die Besprechung des Fundmaterials aus der Füllung eines ursprünglich am Südrand des unteren Embolos gelegenen Tiefbrunnens in Raum WT2 des Hanghauses 2 (Kap. 7). Schließlich werden die Befunde und Fundkomplexe aus dem Bereich der sog. Kuretenhalle ausgewertet, die für die nördliche Randgestaltung des unteren Embolos von der hellenistischen Zeit bis in die spätantik-frühbyzantinische Zeit aufschlussreich sind (Kap. 8). Nach einem Exkurs über technologische und typologische Überlegungen zur Kuretenstraße (Kap. 9) erfolgt in Kap. 10 die Erläuterung der gewonnenen Erkenntnisse zur Entwicklung des unteren Embolos in seinen einzelnen feststellbaren Phasen von der hellenistischen bis in die frühbyzantinische Zeit. Schlussendlich werden die Ergebnisse in den Kontext der Entwicklung der gesamten Kuretenstraße eingebettet (Kap. 11). Der 1615 Einzelfunde umfassende Katalog schließt in Kap. 12 an, gefolgt von der Illustration ausgewählter Funde auf insgesamt 90 Tafeln.<br />

eng: The present dissertation about Pottery evidences for the history of the lower Embolos of Ephesus focuses on the contextual evaluation of ceramic assemblages from excavations carried out in the area of the lower Embolos (Curetes Street). The pottery finds comprise a chronological range of about thousand years (3rd century BC 7th century AD) and account relevantly for a specification of the Curetes Streets development. Both the dating of single monuments and the chronology of the lower Embolos could be specified.<br />After an introductory chapter (Chapter 1) about problems and aims, as well as methods and approaches, the history of research follows in Chapter 2. Thereafter, selected excavations are discussed, starting with the monuments on the lower Embolos south side. After the Hellenistic fountain house (Chapter 3), three excavations carried out in the foundation area of the Heroon and their chronologically relevant pottery finds are presented (Chapter 4). Chapter 5 is about two excavations carried out in room 45c of Terrace House 2, which are significantly relevant for the dating of the Octagon. The dating of the Hexagon is discussed in Chapter 6. Subsequently, the finds from the fillings of a well in room WT2 of Terrace House 2, situated on the southern edge of the lower Embolos, are presented in Chapter 7. Finally, the complex structures unearthed in the Curetes Hall, being particularly indicative for the formation of the lower Embolos north side from Hellenistic to early Byzantine times, are discussed (Chapter 8). After an excursus about technological and typological aspects of the Curetes Street (Chapter 9), the conclusions concerning the development of the lower Embolos for each of its phases are presented in Chapter 10. Finally, the results gained for the lower Embolos are embedded into the context of the development of the whole Curetes Street (Chapter 11). The catalogue (Chapter 12) comprises 1615 single finds and is followed by the illustration of selected objects on 90 plates.<br />
