ger: Wir sind alle Libyer lautet Mucammar al-Qaddafis revolutionäres Motto. Mit einem Gleichheits- und Gerechtigkeitsanspruch, das dem Vorbild eines ethnisch homogenen Nationalstaates folgt, konstruierte er unter dieser Prämisse ein nationales arabisch-islamisches Identitätsmodell, das weder ethnische noch religiöse Minderheiten anerkennt und eine formal gleichgestellte Gesellschaft propagiert.<br />Demgegenüber steht die Prämisse vieler Tuareg (Imajeghen) in den benachbarten Staaten Algerien, Mali und Niger: Wir sind frei. Wir haben kein Land und keinen Präsidenten. Infolge der kolonialen Aufteilung der Sahara und der anschließenden Nationalstaatenbildung wurden Imajeghen auf mehrere Länder zersplittert und je nach Staatsdoktrin unterschiedlich in die jeweiligen politischen Systeme integriert.<br />Wann und unter welchen Umständen wirken tribale Affinitäten stärker und wann und in welchen Situationen wird mit staatlicher Zugehörigkeit argumentiert? So lautete die zentrale Fragestellung, die anhand dreier Akteure - libyscher Staat, traditionell auf libyschem Staatsgebiet lebende Tuareg (Kel Azjer) und nach Libyen migrierte Tuareg (Ishumar) - thematisiert wird. Identitäten zwischen Grenzen ist eine sozialanthropologische Studie, die verschiedene Strategien von Zughörigkeit und Abgrenzung aufzeigt, den Umgang mit staatlicher Macht verdeutlicht und die Rolle territorialer und soziokultureller Grenzen expliziert. Die Studie konzentriert sich auf Normen und Werte der libyschen Identitätskonstruktionen, untersucht die Schule als Vermittler der staatlichen Ideologie, thematisiert Heiratspraktiken als Indikatoren informeller Sozialisation und erkundet die Etablierung eines transregionalen Handels- und Migrationsraumes als Folge von Überschreitungen und Umgehungen der staatlichen Loyalität.

eng: We are all Libyans: Mucammar al-Qaddafis revolutionary slogan designed a national arabic islamic identity, which recognizes neither ethnic nor religious minorities, but propagates in the sense of equality, a uniform society. In contrast there is the premise of Tuareg (Imasheghen) in the neighbouring countries of Algeria, Mali and Niger: We are free. We have no country and no president. Due to the colonial partition and allocation of the Sahara and the following formation of national states after independence, Tuareg were split on several countries and integrated differently upon state doctrin into the respective political systems.<br />How do interactions of national libyan principles with tribal conceptions of affiliation and difference, identity and alterity, selfing and othering look like? In which situations tribal affinities work more strongly, under which circumstances national loyality is prefered? This is the central question, which bases on three participants: the Libyan state, traditionally on Libyan territory living Tuareg (Kel Azjer) and recently from Niger migrated Tuareg (Ishumar). Identities between boundaries is an anthropological study examining different kinds of strategies of affiliation in dealing with national power and emphasis the role of territorial and sociocultural boundaries.<br />The study concentrates on norms and values of Libyan constructions of identity, examines the school as a mediator for the national ideology, brings up marriage practices as an indicator for informal socialisation and explores the establishement of a saharian transregional space, in which the boundaries between migration, commerce and smuggling overlap and elude national loyality.
