ger: Das Thema der vorliegenden Arbeit ist die politische und Verfassungs-Geschichte von Elis und seiner Periöken von 400 bis 360 v. Chr, dem Zeitraum vom Ende des Elisch-spartanischen Krieges, in welchem die Periöken mit spartanischer Unterstützung in Form autonomer politischer Gemeinden die Unabhängigkeit von Elis erlangten, bis zur sukzessiven Auflösung derselben, wenige Jahzehnte nach deren Konstituierung, in den 60er Jahren des 4. Jahrhunderts. Die Arbeit gliedert sich dabei in zwei Teile: die Verfassungsgeschichte der Eleer im betrachteten Zeitraum und die Geschichte und Formen der Verfassungen der elischen Periöken, d.h. der Triphylier, der Akroreier, der Lasioner, der Letriner, Amphidolier, Marganer und der Pisaten. Südlich des Alpheios bis zum Fluss Neda als Grenze zu Messenien lagen die laut Herodot von den Minyern gegründeten Poleis Makistos, Lepreon, Phrixa, Noudios, Pyrgos und Epion. Um 400 schließen sie sich zu einem Koinon als Triphylier zusammen. Unter Einbeziehung von literarischen Quellen, epigraphischen Urkunden und archäologischen Befunden wird die politische Geschichte und Verfassungs-Geschichte dieser neu gegründeten Staaten bis zu deren Verschwinden verfolgt. Die epigraphischen Quellen lassen nicht nur die politischen und institutionellen Aspekte innerhalb der lokalen Verfassungs-Geschichte rekonstrieren, sie helfen auch - in Bezug auf Triphylien - Dialektunterschiede gegenüber dem Elischen herauszuarbeiten. Über die Rekonstruktion der archäologischen Forschung im Untersuchungsgebiet werden Rückschlüsse auf die Siedlungsstrukturen der nord-west-peloponnesischen Landschaften und die topographische Lokalisierung nur literarisch überlieferter Siedlungsnamen möglich, wobei in diesem Zusammenhang auch die innerhalb der Forschung im Schatten von Olympia stehenden lokalen Kulte bzw. deren Bedeutung besprochen wird.

eng: The political and constitutional history of Elis and the 'perioikoi'-states of the Eleians from 400 to 360 B.C. The subject of the research is to discuss the political and constitutional history of the Eleians and their surrounding inhabitants and city-states during the first half of the 4th century B.C, more exactly in historical terms: from the end of the Eleian-spartanian war during which the Perioikoi had been liberated through the Spartanians and became independent to the restoration of Elis' statal influences in the region south of the elean coreland about 360 B. C. The research is divided in two main parts: on the one hand the political and institutional history of the Eleians and on the other the types of the constitutions and their changes of the liberated perioikides poleis. These are north of the river Alpheios the Akroreioi, the Lasiones, the Letrinoi, Amphidoloi and Marganeis and the Pisatai which inhabited the surroundings of Olympia. South of the Alpheios (as informs us Herodotus) there were the poleis of Makistos, Lepreon, Phrixa, Noudios, Pyrgos and Epion in a region that is reaching south until the river Neda. All of them became about 400 B.C. a koinon named Triphylia. Most important for the research are the literary sources above all the inscriptional evidence through which it became possible to reconstruct detailed constitutional aspects of many of the state organizations of the perioikes and also to take linguistic regional differences into consideration. Apart from this sources recent archaeological excavations and investigations have been important to illuminate the patterns of settlements in this region of the north-western Peloponnes in the considered époque and also for identifying only literary known names of settlements with new findings. The investigated period (as the Eleians and their perioikes themselves) has only attracted the interests of a small number of researchers until now.
