Description
Summary:eng: The human body is a social construct; new imaging technologies (CT, MRI, PET) are able to (re)produce a digital model of human being which is completely artificial. The patient's body function as a database, life and death are negotiated within the computer networks. The doll as a model of the human body produced in particular historical conditions of knowledge and discovery is the center of my research interest. Contemporary concepts of the body reflect different stages of 'dollification'. As a consequence of the (graphic) capacities of the new computer technologies, the production and diffusion of knowledge in the contemporary era have become increasingly dependent on processes of visualization. In these informational networks, the body, in the sense of the doll, functions as an artificially produced database. Through a hermeneutic interpretation of electronic images, the doll should be set in its appropriate socio-historical context and analyzed in its multiple and manifold relationships with the contemporary information society. An artificial body is produced which - always already bodyless - does not exist in reality.
