Aurélien Bellucci is a Research Fellow at the Käte Hamburger Centre for Cultural Practices of Reparation (CURE) at Saarland University. A native of Metz, he was trained in modern literature at Sorbonne Université and in social sciences at Sciences Po before receiving his PhD in Comparative Literature from Harvard University.

He is currently developing a book based on his dissertation, Democratic Performances: How Theater Creates the People (honorable mention, Charles Bernheimer Prize). Drawing on fieldwork with theatre-makers and audiences and on textual and performance analysis, it compares different traditions of people’s theatre in Europe and Asia. 

Within THEAGENT, Aurélien has been examining the role of public theatres in processes of urban change in the Greater Paris area, as well as contemporary French plays that address gentrification, notably recent productions by the playwright and director Charlotte Lagrange.

His research has appeared in The Brecht Yearbook, New Theatre Quarterly, and Theatre Research International. He has also held positions as an Associate at Harvard’s Asia Center and a Lecturer at Miami University Dolibois European Center and the American University of Paris.
