New Histories of Romania during the Cold War

The event will be an opportunity to discuss new approaches in the Romanian historiography of the communist regime. The insights about the Romanian case will be situated in the broader context of histories of state socialism and Cold War in Southeastern Europe.

The workshop will consist of two panels:

I. Daily Life and Memory

Claudia-Florentina Dobre (NIIH)
"New Approaches in Dealing with the Memory of Communist Repression in Post-comunist Romania”

The workshop is organized by the Institute for Habsburg and Balkan Studies (Austrian Academy of Sciences) in collaboration with the "Nicolae Iorga" Institute of History (Romanian Academy). This event takes place in the context of the research project “Foreign policy thinking in communist Albania and Romania, Grant-DOI: 10.55776/PAT6757023” funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF).
