With the Beiträge zur Rechtsgeschichte Österreichs (“Contributions to the Legal History of Austria”), a peer-reviewed journal was established in 2011 that not only publishes the research results of the Commission for the Legal History of Austria and its members, but is also open to all others interested in historia juris—whether they come from the fields of law, history, the social and economic sciences, or other related disciplines—and who engage with Austria’s legal history in innovative ways.

The journal also allows for the publication of more extensive contributions; however, until now, there has been no suitable medium for monographs. This gap is to be filled by the Schriften zur Rechtsgeschichte Österreichs – SRGÖ (“Studies in Austrian Legal History”), founded in 2025. Like the journal, the series is intended to be open to a wide variety of research in legal history. The term “Austria” is likewise not meant—just as with the journal—to be limited to the territory of the present-day Republic.

The series was inaugurated with the German-language edition of John W. Boyer’s English-language classic Austria 1867–1955. The second volume, Daniela Steffl’s dissertation Arisierung und Restitution von land- und forstwirtschaftlichem Vermögen in Niederösterreich (“Aryanization and Restitution of Agricultural and Forestry Property in Lower Austria”), is currently in preparation.
