One of the main activities in April at the Stefan Meyer Institute was the biannual meeting with the new members of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), which took place at the Institute’s main building at Boltzmanngasse 3.
The meeting took off in the morning of the 18th April with a general overview of the current status and activities of the institute, presented by our director, Prof. Eberhard Widmann. Three sessions with detailed talks on the main research topics within SMI followed. The first covered the Low-energy Precision Experiments, including matter-antimatter measurements, studies of the neutron decay, and violation of the Pauli principle. The second included presentations on Hadron Physics, with focus on different experiments in which SMI takes part, such as ALICE, PANDA and BELLE. The last was reserved for an overview of the Advanced Instrumentation section where in-house detector developments were emphasized.
An active lunch break took place after the morning session, during which students and postdocs from SMI presented posters on their work and acquainted the SAB members with their achievements and results. The activities on the first day ended with a lab tour followed by a dinner.
The following day the meeting continued with closed sessions and interviews with PhD students and postdocs working at SMI. Another closed session between SAB and ÖAW Representatives at SMI marked the end of this visit.
