EXHIBITION: "People arrived"

“People arrived” is the title of the song by the singer Cem Karaca, which tells of the circumstances and hardships faced by migrant workers. “They needed our labour, the strength to get things done on the assembly line. We people weren’t interesting, that’s why we remained unknown to you,” Karaca continues, describing here a lack of awareness of the people who came as guests, stayed as fellow citizens, and worked hard for Austrian society. The exhibition aims to record, honour and highlight the stories and experiences of the guest workers who came to Austria in the 1960s and 1970s. It features portraits and stories of 20 guest workers who emigrated from Turkey to Austria between 1964 and 1979 and stayed here.
