The announcement list Forum Wissenschaft kolonial was initiated by the themed platform ÖAW kolonial in 2025, and allows for networking and exchange within the initiative Forum Wissenschaft kolonial. The goal of the forum is to bring together specialists from universities and other research institutions, from museums, archives, public bodies and political and cultural initiatives.

The topical foci of the forum and the announcement list are the colonial entanglements of theHabsburg Empire and Austria and the coloniality of (academic) knowledge production, including their intersections with cultural politics and artistic engagement.

 

Guidlelines & Registration

The administrators of the list are currently the initiators of the themed platform ÖAW kolonial, Johannes Feichtinger, Kerstin Klenke and Andreas Pülz (OeAW). You can reach them via tp.oeaw.colonial(at)oeaw.ac.at. They have to approve membership to the announcement list, in order to inhibit misuse as much as possible, and will intervene if the guidelines are violated (see last point of the list).

  • All Members May Post: Every subscribed member is welcome to send emails to the list to share relevant announcements and information in English or German, as long as the guidelines are followed.
  • Only Share Relevant Content, such as announcing events, publications, calls for papers, calls for collaboration, job postings, funding opportunities, etc. relating to the topical foci of the list. Off-topic posts are not permitted (no advertisements, chain letters, virus warnings, petition requests, or any promotional content unrelated to the list’s themes).
  • Use Clear Subject Lines that reflect your announcement, e.g. Category (“Event”/”Publication”/”Project”/”Call (Cfp/Job/Funding opportunity)”): short title, date/deadline, place. This helps members quickly identify the content of your email.
  • Do NOT start Discussion Threads: The list is for announcements and information only. If you have questions or comments about an announcement, contact the sender directly off-list. Do not initiate or continue a reply-all discussion.
  • Do not Share Personal (Contact) Details of Third Parties without their Consent.
  • Use Respectful Language: Discriminatory and stereotyping language and content of any kind is not allowed.
  • The Administrators Will Intervene if the Rules are Violated. While the list is generally unmoderated, the administrators reserve the right to take appropriate action in case of rule infractions, e.g. issuing a warning or removing people from the announcement list. Please help the administrators by contacting them via tp.oeaw.colonial(at)oeaw.ac.at, when you see a guideline infringement.
