VIENNA, OCT 17-18, 2023: Convergence? Interfaces of the Digital and the Living (Symposium & Workshop)

Program

Overview

Catering to a self-nominated avantgarde of scientists, scholars, and artists that connect the digital with the living, this interactive event will explore the “unknown unknowns” that emerge from the confluence of digitalization and artificial intelligence on the one hand, and biomedicine and the human body & brain on the other hand.

The symposium & workshop takes place in the center of Vienna on October 17-18, 2023. This two-day event, organized by the Austrian Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the Vienna Science and Technology Fund (WWTF) and the OeAW Young Academy, will explore and structure the rapidly developing connections of informatics and the life sciences, which are widely expected to change the way we live and die over the course of the 21st century.

The event will explore developments and connections that are only starting to take shape, but which will likely be of critical importance for the “Homo sapiens digitalis” of the 21st century. It will focus on questions, scenarios, prototypes, and pathways, seeking to establish potential futures in broad strokes, while giving due attention to transformative details.

An evening event takes place on October 17, 2023 starting 6 PM. This event is open to the general public (registration required) and includes a panel discussion with the title “Living the future: How biomedical technology and AI may change society and humanity ".

This conference is part of Colloquium Digitale: Digitalization, Human Beings, and Society", a series of events by the Austrian Academy of Sciences which offers a platform of discussion on the potentials, risks and effects of the digital transformation.

The event took place in Vienna on October 17-18, 2023. Video recordings of the talks and sessions are available here:
