As part of the PolychroMon research project funded by the Austrian Academy of Sciences – Heritage Science Austria, an international conference was organized on 20 and 21 March at the Kulturfabrik Hainburg: Under the title »Colors revealed - Polychrome Monuments in the Roman Provinces. Detection, Interpretation, Visualization«, around 100 experts in ancient polychromy from all over the world discussed the latest research findings on the use of color on stone monuments in the Roman provinces.

Over the course of two days, speakers from ten countries reported on research on three continents in 16 presentations. The entire spectrum of the investigation of stone monuments using modern technical possibilities was covered. The event was organized by the Austrian Archaeological Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, project partners are the State Collections of Lower Austria, the Federal Monuments Office and the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna. The social program included a reception by the Governor of Lower Austria, Johanna Mikl-Leitner, and the Federal Monuments Office. The conference ended with guided tours of the Carnuntinum Museum. The very positive feedback from all participants at the event underlines the importance of international exchange on the issues raised by the project, which will be completed by the end of 2025.
