On 15 June, the festive event in Athens took place on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the branch office of the OeAI in Athens. The director of the branch office, Birgitta Eder, presented the new publication entitled »Ein anderes Griechenland. 125 Jahre Forschungen des Österreichischen Archäologischen Intituts in Athen«, which presents the history of the OeAI Athens, its excavations and research projects on 475 pages in German and Greek.
Afterwards, Hans-Joachim Gehrke, professor emeritus of the University of Freiburg i. Br. and former president of the German Archaeological Institute, gave the keynote speech on »Griechenland jenseits der Polis: Zur Geschichte von Elis (ca. 1100–450 v. Chr.)«.
At the end of the event, the Institute invited guests to a reception in the newly designed garden of the branch office. We thank the numerous guests on site and those who also participated via Zoom for their interest!
