CMC hosts final Mediadelcom workshop

Just over a month before the end of the project, the partners of the study "Critical Exploration of Media-Related Risks and Opportunities for Deliberative Communication" (Mediadelcom) met for a final internal workshop at the CMC. Around two dozen researchers from all over Europe accepted the invitation of Austrian PI Tobias Eberwein to discuss some important strategic issues following the completion of the key research outputs.

The agenda for the workshop included planning for the upcoming Final Conference of the Mediadelcom project at the Résidence Palace in Brussels. In addition to numerous renowned researchers, a number of important stakeholders from media policy and journalism are expected to attend the event in the Belgian capital on February 15, 2024. The preparatory project workshop therefore focused on a detailed discussion of the policy recommendations that can be derived from the study.

Another important topic at the meeting in Vienna was the reflection of the findings from the Mediadelcom Work Package 4. Using an innovative methodological process of agent-oriented modeling, the project partners had developed various scenarios for future media development in Europe over the preceding months. The resulting conclusions now required in-depth internal discussion before being presented to a wider public for the first time at the upcoming conference in Brussels.

Mediadelcom is a three-year research project financed by Horizon 2020 – the EU’s funding program for research and innovation. It involves 17 teams representing 14 EU countries, from Western as well as Central and Eastern Europe. Coordinated by the University of Tartu, Estonia, the project had a running time of three years, starting in March 2021. The overall objective of Mediadelcom is to develop a diagnostic tool (multiple scenario-building model) for policy makers, educators, media critical bodies and institutions, as well as for media experts and journalists, which enables the provision of holistic assessment of risks and opportunities concerning deliberative communication and consequently social cohesion in Europe.
