About Mediadelcom:

The project “Critical Exploration of Media-Related Risks and Opportunities for Deliberative Communication” (Mediadelcom) is financed by Horizon 2020, with a running time from March 2021 to February 2023. Together with 16 other European partners, the Institute for Comparative Media and Communications Studies (CMC) has been a key contributor in all project phases, examining various aspects of European media to determine the risks and opportunities for deliberative communication. Mediadelcom argues that European political and cultural spaces evolve best if specific policies enhance the conditions for deliberative communication.

The project has developed a methodology to detect the risks and opportunities that determine the news media’s ability to provide necessary information, as well as influence the electorate’s engagement in deliberative communication.

The findings highlight areas of concern for media practitioners, policy makers and the public. Mediadelcom provides valuable information in the context of implementing EU media-targeted regulations, including the European Media Freedom Act. The results also tackle some of the major challenges facing the media, such as accountability, access to information, literacy, polarization. Mediadelcom involves 17 teams representing 14 EU countries, from Western as well as Central and Eastern Europe. More information: https://www.mediadelcom.eu
