Ancient Greek Music Tools

This will install the following two small Windows apps:

Harmogai

This app allows you to explore various tunings proposed by ancient theorists, most prominently those of the concert cithara detailed by Claudius Ptolemy in his Harmonics. It shows interval ratios, ancient note names, pitches, and intervals in cents. Plays the pitches using the numeric keys.

Virtual Canon

This app implements a virtual version of the experimental instrument used and proposed by Claudius Ptolemy in his Harmonics. Shift the bridges and play the notes from both their sides using the numeric keys (press "1" to pluck the left side of string 1, Shift+"1" to pluck the right side). Shows ruler positions in Ptolemy's hexagesimal Greek and in modern numbers. You may also hide the bridges in order to exclude visual hints when trying to set up tunings by ear.
