Wolfgang Lechner receives the Google Faculty Research Award for the category Quantum Computing. The award was funded by the internet company Google to support innovative research for the development of new technologies, and amounts to80.000 US-Dollar. Wolfgang Lechner's research at the Intitute for Theoretical Physics at the University of Innsbruck aims at developing theoretical basics for quantum computers, which are to solve optimisation problems especially efficiently. To that end Lechner founded a spin-off-company last year.
