Stefan Kuhn awarded Award of Excellence 2018 by Austrian Ministry of Education, Science and Research

Stefan Kuhn wins Award of Excellence 2018 for his dissertation “Cooling and manipulating the ro-translational motion of dielectric particles in high vacuum”.

07 December 2018

Stefan Kuhn, who received an ESQ grant for his Discovery Project at the beginning of this year, was now awarded the "Award of Excellence 2018" by the Ministry of Education, Science and Research.

Since 2008 the "Award of Excellence" has been recognizing the 40 best doctoral theses in Austria of the year.

In his thesis Stefan Kuhn has developed novel techniques to optically measure, control and cool the rotational motion of silicon nanorods. His work poses an important step towards future macroscopic quantum experiments.

Stefan Kuhn from the Quantum optics, quantum nanophysics and quantum information group at the Faculty of Physics received the Award of Excellence 2018 from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research for his Dissertation “Cooling and manipulating the ro-translational motion of dielectric particles in high vacuum” in the group of Univ. Prof. Markus Arndt.
