Study of Dipolar Quantum Mixtures of Erbium and Dysprosium Atoms

As an ESQ postdoc, I am studying dipolar quantum mixtures of erbium and dysprosium atoms in the RARE lab of Francesca Ferlaino.  These atoms have a rich energy-level structure, and are highly magnetic.  These features open new possibilities for control of individual atoms, as well as the interactions between them.   In particular, I work towards greater understanding of supersolids formed from dipolar gases, on novel effects enabled by the combination of different dipolar species, and on extending techniques of microscopic control and detection to these exciting atoms.

Matthew Norcia has moved on to Atom Computing Inc. in Boulder, Colorado, USA
