Higher-order quantum computation

Our project is to understand the ultimate limits of quantum computers that can compose quantum gates in new ways that are possible either in principle or in practice, but are not allowed in the standard formalism.

These new forms of composition include putting the gates in a superposition of causal orders, and acting with them on subspaces of the Hilbert space. We also want to find ways to realize them, either via direct implementations or simulations with post-selection.

After his ESQ Fellowship, Mateus Araújo is staying on at IQOQI Vienna as a member of the Navascués Group.
