SMI Positron Group goes MBI Exotic Atom Group

The Stefan Meyer Institute for Subatomic Physics (SMI) and the Institute of High Energy Physics (HEPHY) have joined forces to form the Marietta Blau Institute (MBI) for Particle Physics. We are excited about this change, as it brings together decades of expertise in experimental and theoretical physics under one roof. The name honours Marietta Blau, a pioneering Austrian physicist whose discoveries of Zertrümmerungssterne (disintegration stars) and her contributions to understanding high-energy radiation opened new paths in particle research.

As part of this transition, the Positron Group of SMI will continue its work within MBI as the Exotic Atoms Group, expanding its research into the fundamental nature of matter-antimatter interactions through precision studies of exotic atomic systems.
