Jacques Pothier is Emeritus Professor of American Studies at the University of Versailles Saint Quentin en Yvelines, part of Paris Saclay, a member of the Center for the Cultural History of Contemporary Societies. He also taught at the College of Charleston, Clark University, Georgia State University, and Sciences Po St Germain en Laye. He has been President of the French Association for American Studies (2006-2009), member of the board and webmaster of the EAAS and vice-president of the Institut des Amériques (2008-2016).
His core field of study is William Faulkner and the literature of the US South. He contributed extensively to the French edition of Faulkner's works (Gallimard Pléiade). He is currently especially interested in cultural circulations across cultural areas (issues of transmission, influence, translation, mis-appropriation). He is on the editorial board of Transatlantic Cultures, a digital platform for Transatlantic Cultural History.
