Since the middle of the last century, biodiversity in Austria has been continuously recorded and documented by the Austrian Academy of Sciences, making it the only institution in Austria with continuous activities in this field. As part of biodiversity research, special taxonomic, phylogenetic, evolutionary-biological and ecogeographical studies are carried out. Special emphasis is placed on the synthesis of organismic and molecular results. Results are published in the CATALOGUS FLORAE AUSTRIAE, CATALOGUS NOVUS FAUNAE AUSTRIAE, and the CHECKLISTS OF AUSTRIAN FAUNA in the online publication series BIOSYSTEMATICS AND ECOLOGY.
