PROGRAMME
Aromanian, an endangered Romance language, faces significant challenges due to a limited number of speakers and increasing assimilation.
The academic conference "Aromanian on the Path to a Literary and Standard Language" explored the historical and contemporary development of the language, as well as strategies for its preservation and promotion. In collaboration with Aromanian associations and speakers from Greece, Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Romania, as well as other partners, the conference examined measures to support Aromanian linguistic identity, the process of standardisation, and its implementation in education, media, and literature.
The conference aimed to promote the research and preservation of Aromanian and the implementation of Aromanian in online translation systems (e.g., Arotranslate). Written norms for the use of Armonanian were discussed, existing documants and linguistic frameworks were analysed, and the expansion challenges in the context of contact languages were addressed. This conference provided a unique opportunity to collaborate with experts and representatives of the speaker community.
