Workshop 3 "Rigidity in Action"

within the Special Semester on Rigidity and Flexibility

Workshop 3

April 8–12, 2024

Rigidity in Action

Organizers
  • Kaie Kubjas (Aalto University)
  • Anthony Nixon (Lancaster University)
Description

Rigidity theory started with the investigation of trusses and frameworks. After that there was a period of pure mathematical discussion until in the recent years the topic gained interest due to applications in various fields. Rigid structures are used in sensor network localization techniques and in formation control of autonomous vehicles. It can be applied to molecular structure and material science. Methods and results of rigidity have been used in biology, architecture, statistics and arts. The workshop shall gather experts in these area with experts in rigidity theory to foster collaboration between the theory and applications.
