Short Biography
Silvio Heinze studied Business Informatics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, completing study stays at the SGH Warsaw School of Economics and Tallinn University of Technology. In his role as a Data Scientist at Dataplexity, he focused on the development of customized data applications and database interfaces, with a particular emphasis on the collection and analysis of urban environmental data through IoT sensors.
Additionally, he is the founder and managing director of Luftdaten.at, a Citizen Science organization that enables citizens to independently explore their environment. Using self-built devices, they can monitor factors such as urban air quality and heat, making the collected data freely available for scientific research. The goal of Luftdaten.at is to make microclimate data in cities accessible to everyone, thereby raising awareness of environmental and climate issues.
Since August 2024, he has been working as a Data Science specialist at the Institute for Urban and Regional Research at the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). His focus is on the development and application of AI methods in urban research, particularly in the field of GeoAI and the machine-based analysis of street-view imagery to derive urban indicators.
