At the core of the VLACH Commission’s working ethics is the empowerment of community members by involving them in all working stages, from the data collection to the publication and review of our collections. Each community member, irrespective of their field of study or activity, is assigned a tutor (VLACH staff member) by whom they are trained in the methods of field research and language documentation. Community members are invited regularly to take part in the VLACH training workshops, are offered the possibility of internships at our headquarters in Vienna and are entrusted with access to our data collection laboratory.

One of the VLACH commission’s working strategies is the close collaboration with fellow experts in the VLACH areas of research. Invariably, this concerns the creation, annotation and publishing of data collections either gathered by them or already existing in our VLACH repository. Consequently, our community consultants are not always communities members.
