About

Sonja Spitzer is a population economist working on health, ageing, and economic wellbeing over the life course. She tackles questions such as “How healthily will we age in the future?” or “How do life events, such as the birth of a child or retirement, impact the financial situation of households?”. She is particularly interested in issues related to survey data, for example, weighting adjustments or the evaluation of self-reported measures with objective information. For her research, she applies econometric methods as well as demographic methods.

At present, Sonja is a predoctoral researcher at the Vienna Institute of Demography (VID) in the research group on population economics as well as a PhD candidate at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU). She holds a Master of Science in Economics and a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Socio-Economics, both from WU. She has also completed parts of her studies at the School of Economics and the Department of Political Economy at the University of Sydney, Australia.
