Markus Sauerberg joined the research group ‘’Health & Longevity’’ of the Vienna Institute of Demography in August 2017 as a research assistant. He holds a Bachelor degree in Social Science and a Master degree in Demography from the University of Rostock. In 2016-2017 he successfully completed the European Doctoral School of Demography in Rostock and Rome.
Markus is interested in issues related to health and mortality. Along with analyzing determinants of health and mortality, his research focuses on the accuracy and sensitivity of demographic measures. In the framework of the ERC project ‘’Levels and Trends of Health Expectancy: Understanding its Measurement and Estimation Sensitivity’’ he evaluates estimation techniques for demographic period indicators. The idea of tempo-adjustment in morality is also involved in his research. Apart from that, he participates in the HEMOX (http://www.cloisterstudy.eu) project and examines sex differences in health and mortality.
