Astrid Mager accepted into "Young Academy"

Astrid Mager, scholar in Science and Technology Studies at the ITA and receiver of the Elise Richter fellowship, was accepted as a member into the "Young Academy" within the Austrian Academy of Science - congratulations!

Since 2012, Mager works as a postdoctoral researcher at the ITA. Her particular interests are internet technologies and socio-political developments. Her research, rooted in science and technology studies and technology assessment, is concerned with the internet and society, search engine policies, algorithms and aspects of privacy. She started off leading the project on "Glocal Search - search technology at the intersection of global capitalism and local socio-political cultures" (OeNB) at first.

Since November 2016 she is leader of the FWF project "Algorithmic imaginaries. Visions and values in the shaping of search engines" (Elise Richter fellowship). She teaches at the Department of Social Studies of Science as an external lecturer and is co-editor of the open-access journal "Momentum Quaterly - Journal for social progress". The Young Academy The Young Academy accepts distinguished young academics of all disciplines. It was founded to strengthen innovative research and support new talent. Its goal is to establish conditions that allow researchers to be able to compete on an international level.
