Research Fellow Eda Gemi

We warmly welcome Dr. Eda Gemi as a visiting Research Fellow at the Institute for Urban and Regional Research!

Eda Gemi is a Senior Lecturer of Sociology of Migration and Gender Studies at European University of Tirana. As a Research Fellow at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) in the period 2012-2016, she headed the migration research team. Since 2010 she has been a research fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies of the European University Institute (EUI), Florence, Italy. She holds a Master of Arts in Southeast European Studies from the Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration of University of Athens and was awarded from London Metropolitan University, UK a PhD on Migration and Integration.

The six months research stay at ISR is funded by the Austrian Academy of Sciences under the JESH-Joint Excellence in Science and Humanities Programme. Her research project focuses on the triptych integration, transnationalism and return migration of Albanians through a comparative transnational perspective. It aims to bring out a new understanding to one of the most case in the Western Balkans - EU migration system by comparing two different national contexts: Austria and Greece.
