Unlocking the Secrets of the Universe through Gravitational Waves

Betreuer: Gianluca Inguglia

Are you fascinated by the mysteries of the cosmos, and do you want to be part of a groundbreaking scientific journey that explores the very fabric of space and time? Then join us in the field of gravitational wave studies for your master's thesis, and contribute to our understanding of the most enigmatic phenomena in the Universe.

Project Overview: Gravitational waves, ripples in the fabric of spacetime caused by cataclysmic cosmic events, offer a new and unique window into the Universe's hidden secrets. From colliding black holes to neutron star mergers, these waves carry information that has never been accessible. This master's thesis project will allow you to perform cutting-edge research, utilizing state-of-the-art technology and computational methods to analyze and interpret gravitational wave data.

What You Will Explore:

  • Black Hole Mergers: Investigate the formation of intermediate-mass black holes and their role in the cosmo.
  • Multimessenger Astronomy: Combine gravitational wave signals with electromagnetic observations to create a comprehensive picture of cosmic events.
  • Machine Learning in (Astro-) Physics: Apply advanced machine learning algorithms to sift through complex data, enhancing the detection and understanding of gravitational wave signals.

Requirements: knowledge of general relativity, python programming language.
