Selection of high-radiopurity materials for dark matter experiments

Betreuer: Dr. Valentyna Mokina

Project: CRESST

One of the crucial issues for any dark matter experiment is its background. The higher the background in the experiment is, the lower is its sensitivity in particular for light dark matter particles. Thus, it is crucial for a dark matter experiment to select only materials of highest radiopurity.

Within this project, we are looking for a master/Diploma student. Your task will be to investigate the different types of materials used for dark matter experiments, define a radioassay of candidate materials and their radiopurity using different types of spectroscopy and evaluate their contribution to the potential background.

Programming skills and basic particle physic knowledge are highly welcome.
