Biography


After graduating in 2009, Johannes Angyan read business law as well as international business administration at the University of Economics and Business in Vienna. Currently he is a student of the Doctoral programme in business law. During his studies, he took part in the Erasmus Student Exchange Programme at the University of Southampton, UK.

Johannes Angyan has completed various internships at various banking institutions and law firms in Vienna. In addition, he took part in the Austrian Moot Court Competition in 2013, where he came second. The subject of the Moot Court case was further elaborated on in his Master thesis (“Die Teilrechtsfähigkeit der Eigentümergemeinschaft bei Abtretung und Durchsetzung von Ansprüchen” [The partial legal capacity of the condominium owners’ association in respect of assignment and enforcement of claims]). For his Bachelor thesis (“Die Bedeutung von hypothetischer Alternativanlage und allgemeinem Marktrisiko in Zusammenhang mit Schadenersatzfällen in der Anlageberatung” [The relevance of hypothetical alternative investments and general market risk when assessing compensation in cases of damage attributable to investment consultancy services]) he was awarded the CHSH LAWard 2013. In 2015, Johannes Angyan was awarded the PWC Best Bachelor Thesis in Tax Law Award for his Bachelor thesis (“Das Kriterium der Einnahmenerzielungsabsicht in § 2 Abs 1 UStG” [The criterion of the intention of generating income stated in Sec 2 para 1 of the Austrian VAT Act]) in the international business administration programme. For his essay on legal persons as vicarious agents ("Juristische Personen als Besorgungsgehilfen") he was awarded the Förderpreis der Juristischen Blätter 2017.

Johannes Angyan joined the European Centre of Tort and Insurance Law (ECTIL) as a research assistant of Univ.-Prof. i.R. Dr. DDr. h.c. Helmut Koziol in March 2014. In September 2016, Johannes Angyan moved from ECTIL to the Institute for European Tort Law (ETL) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
