Markus Aspelmeyer is a Professor at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Vienna, Austria. His research combines the development of new quantum technologies with fundamental quantum experiments. Aspelmeyer has supervised a total of 13 Master students and 4 PhD students and hosted 5 PostDocs. Currently his research group comprises an international team of 7 PostDocs, 12 PhD students and 2 Master students from 7 different countries.
The main research activities of the group include quantum optical control of solid-state nano- and micro-mechanical devices, the exploration of their quantum properties for fundamental questions and novel quantum technology platforms, as well as micromechanical measurements of weak gravitational forces.
