Nicolai Kiesel

Nikolai Kiesel is an Assistant Professor and START group leader at the Faculty of Physics of the University of Vienna. His research focusses on experiments at the interface of quantum optics with non-equilibrium and stochastic thermodynamics. The group’s main activities aim to harness this platform for classical and quantum control of anharmonic mechanical motion. This approach addresses questions concerning, for example, fundamental bounds on the energetics of memory operations, thermodynamic limits on the control of quantum systems, and preparation of non-Gaussian mechanical states.

Future ESQ Postdocs will develop their research profile in the fields of quantum control of mechanical systems as well as experimental stochastic and quantum thermodynamics.
