Funded by the Jubilee Fund of the City of Vienna for the Austrian Academy of Sciences, the Climate, Health and Population (CHAP) project is dedicated to the study of the consequences of climate change in the metropolitan area of Vienna. As extreme weather events, such as heat waves, are becoming more frequent and intense, Vienna’s population is coming under increasing threat from heat stress. Yet many of the disease types that increase the risk from heat-related stresses are also associated with higher risk from COVID-19. Studying and projecting the potential risk from COVID-19 at the municipality level, therefore, seemed like a natural extension to the CHAP project.
