Gustav Feichtinger is Professor Emeritus for Operations Research at the Vienna University of Technology and a member of the ORCOS Research Group (Operations Research and Control Systems). Moreover, he leads the Population Economics research unit at the Vienna Institute of Demography of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He is a graduate in mathematics and physics of the University of Vienna. His habilitation in statistics and demography is from the University of Bonn. His current research activities are concerned with applications of optimal control and dynamic games in economics. He is particularly interested in nonlinear dynamical systems arising in population dynamics and economics. During the last twenty years he has worked in the economics of 'deviant' behaviour (illicit drug consumption, corruption, violence and international terrorism), social interactions (e.g. housing) and epidemiology (HIV/AIDS).

Areas of Expertise

  • Mathematical Demography
  • Modelling 'deviant' behaviour (corruption, illicit drugs, terrorism etc.)
