Dr. Ignaz Seipel-Platz 2
The main seat of the OeAW at number 2 Dr. Ignaz Seipel Platz is an architecturally impressive building with a long and remarkable history. Designed by Jean Nicolas de Ville-Issey and built in 1753/55, it was originally intended for the University of Vienna. In 1857 it was handed to the then “Imperial Academy of Sciences”, which Emperor Ferdinand I had founded ten years earlier. The middle of the building is formed by the spectacular festive hall with its elaborate ceiling frescos by Gregorio Guglielmi.
The assembly hall and the festive hall can be visited for free between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. provided no events are scheduled.
