Melanie Sindelar is an anthropologist of art with a focus on global art markets and the Middle East & Indian Ocean countries. PhD with distinction at the Universtiy of Vienna (2019), MSc in Social Anthropology from the University of Oxford (2013). Recent research stays at IFK International Research Centre for Cultural Studies, Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology, and Institute for Social Movements, Ruhr University Bochum. Previous Post-Doc at the Phonogrammarchiv as part of the FWF Stand-Alone Project P28736, on Local Conceptions of Reincarnation among the Druzes in the Middle East. Currently, Melanie Sindelar conducts research on contemporary Islamic art, funded through the ÖAW Holzhausen Legat.
