Research Group »Settlement Archaeology and Urbanism«

The RG »Settlement Archaeology and Urbanism« deals with a central part of modern classical archaeology: the interdisciplinary study of forms, functions, and developments of urban and rural settlement areas in respect to historical, topographic, architectural, economic, social, and ecological aspects. In this contexts settlement areas or parts of settlements are currently being analyzed in Greece, Egypt, Croatia, Albania and Turkey; the studies go beyond the individual settlements and also include the landscapes and the lived environment.
