Zukunftskolleg Grant Awarded
The project "Temenos and Territory. Economic Power and Social Impact of the Sanctuary of Artemis in Ephesos in the Roman Imperial Era and beyond” was submitted by the OeAI employee Lilli Zabrana in cooperation with the Institute for the Study of Ancient Culture of the OeAW.
Based on the Artemision in Ephesos, one of the largest and most famous sanctuaries of antiquity, the project focuses on the transformation of an ancient sanctuary in the Roman period, late Antiquity and the following middle Ages. The project extends beyond previous sanctuary studies and combines historical, archaeological, architectural, and geographical data in order to understand the structure of the Artemision of Ephesos in temporal-spatial and a socio-cultural terms.
